Changes to search results

I've altered the search results page to also show the date on which the muso registered at the website, to give some idea of how recent the info is. I've also added a "last login" field, which will be substituted for the registration date once it's accurate (at the moment, since it's new, everyone has the same date, but as people use the site it'll get updated and I'll change it over in a couple of months).
I'll get to work on the mp3s I've been promising for ages!
cheers,
dave. |

Hey all,
Just a quick update to let everyone know that I'm still here and the site is still active - we're getting new entries to the database every day, and there will be some new features added towards the end of the year, but I'm a little tied up with work at the moment, so things are taking a while for me to get around to them - thanks for your patience!
Also, if you're using this site to find musos, I'd love to hear about it, as I have no idea how many people are actually finding musos through here (i.e. if it's working! :) ) so if you have the time, please drop me a line via the "Bug Me" page above
cheers,
dave. |

Following a few requests, we'll be incorporating MP3 hosting into musoblackbook.com. Everyone listed in the directory will be able to upload 3 mp3 sample files, which will then be available to potential employers. Stay tuned for details...

Tell your mates!

We're gradually getting a really good database of working musos in and around melbourne going here, but it still has a long way to go before it's really comprehensive. So please, please, please, at every gig you do for the next month, tell every muso you see to register their details at musoblackbook.com and remember that it's 100% free, (no ads, no spam, no BS) so there's really no down side. It takes 5 minutes to register, and the more people that use it, the more successful it'll be, and the more gigs you'll get from it.
So please - tell your mates about musoblackbook.com!
cheers, dave. |

To those people who sent me questions and comments in the last couple of months - thanks very much and sorry I took so long to get back to you - I've been on holiday in Europe (tough life!).
But in any case I'm back in Melbourne now, so I will get on to your requests and make the changes you've suggested just as fast as I can type...

Dave. |

Due to popular request, brisbane.musoblackbook.com has been created for musos in and around Brisbane Australia. At present, I'm still the admin for that site, despite knowing very little about the scene up there. So if you're willing to read a few emails now and then, let me know and you could be the new admin of brisbane.musoblackbook.com.
cheers,

Send SMS messages to musos directly from this site!

That's right, as of now, you can send SMS messages to any muso in the directory who has listed a valid mobile phone number, directly from the website. How? Well, there are detailed instructions in the Help section, but basically, you go and get an account with Clickatell, put your details into your account back here, and away you go.
Oh and the folks at Clickatell are nice enough to give you 10 FREE SMS messages, so you can try before you buy. After that, they're about 7.5c each, so much cheaper than using your phone to send them!
Enjoy!

Some Changes

Having been recently informed that the domain melbournemuso.com (singular, no "s") is in fact a big, flashy, expensive site which will no doubt try to sue me, I've changed the domain to musoblackbook.com. This was chosen very carefully and after much deliberation (read: over a few beers during a set break) by the horn section of a cheesy latin band. Hope you like it.
Also, thanks to some friendly feedback, I've changed the way that the minimum call cost fields work. They now provide options in a range and also include an option for those who want to call themselves "Negotiable".
Over the next week or so, I will also add SMS integration so that you can send query SMS messages from this site to musos listed in it. Each SMS message will cost about 7.5c and will be set up through a provider called Clickatell. If anyone knows of a better rate than this for web-to-sms interfaces please feel free to let me know.
cheers,
dave.
P.S. - Keep spreadin' the word. |

So why on earth have I created this site? Basically two reasons. 1. That I'm incredibly good-natured and an all-round good-bloke. and 2. I wanted an easier way to get in contact with session musos in and around melbourne. Since it didn't seem that anyone had done this online, I figured I'd create a directory of Melbourne session musicians that everyone could use, for free. That's right, I don't charge a cent and I don't have any advertising. I run this site out of my home-office server and a decent SDSL connection which I pay for out of my own pocket. As a result I ask one thing and one thing only: Please Please Please make sure your info is accurate. A directory without accurate info is absolutely useless, so please try to keep your info up to date.
That's about it really, so please enjoy and use this service as you wish...
